Dolby® E

Dolby® E is a scalable production and contribution bitstream for delivering up to 8 channels of up to eight programmes in professional infrastructures (studio, broadcast). Every programme can have its own metadata. Metadata are compatible to DD or DD+ but contain additional information. When transcoding Dolby E to DD or DD+ metadata are adapted accordingly. Unlike some other Dolby technologies, the Dolby E signal never reaches your home viewer. Rather, it’s decoded back to baseband audio just prior to the final transmission and then reencoded into the final audio format—Dolby Digital, for example, or Dolby Digital Plus™.
